On December 3, 2023, we created the most emotional urban quest game in our history – a marriage proposal hidden behind a series of riddles, memories, and symbolic places.
This is the story of Marto and Reni.
How Did it All Begin?
Long before there was a ring, a date, or a final plan, Marto had told Emo something simple: “I enjoy your games so much that when I find my girl, I’m going to propose to her this way.”
Well, he found her.
About six months before the proposal, he contacted us. There was no set date. There was no final script. But there was a place – The Youth Hill in Plovdiv – the place where the two met.
He chose the locations – views they enjoyed together, paths they walked on while walking their dogs, places that had personal meaning. Our task was to turn these places into a story.
The idea sounded quite simple – Reni would think she was testing a new game for couples, but in fact she would be reliving her own love story.
The Preparation – Months in Detail
Games like this don’t happen overnight.
For months, we walked around the Youth Hill, choosing spots for props, testing riddles, rewriting scripts, having online meetings, and thinking up “what if” scenarios.
In the final version of the game, we included:
- important dates from their relationship
- memories of their favorite moments
- names and dates
- their inside jokes
- a puzzle with their photo
- questions about their relationship
- riddles of various types and levels of difficulty
Marto and Reni solved the first riddles together. Then they “split up” to solve supposedly separate missions, but the truth is that after the fourth riddle, the game was made entirely for Reni.
Why an Urban Quest Game?
The format was entirely Marto’s idea, and we think it turned out to be the perfect choice.
An urban quest game does something very special – it takes people out of their everyday lives, focuses them on the current task, and stops them from thinking about the final destination.
Reni didn’t suspect a thing for a second. And when there are no expectations, the excitement doubles.
The Day Itself – December 3, 2023
The weather was pleasant. Our team consisted of three people – Emo, Yana, and Stan – the usual suspects. Interestingly, apart from us and Marto, none of their relatives knew that this was the day. We were going to be the first to hear the answer.
Reni was completely involved in the game, asking how far Marto had gotten with his riddles, and we had our answers ready.
As we tell this story, we still feel the enormous responsibility and tension that overwhelmed us that day.
At one point, Reni said something like, “This game would be really cool for a marriage proposal, you should think about it.”
**Never in our lives have we improvised so quickly.
While we walked with her and kept the secret, Marto and Stan went home to get the ring and prepare the finale. We texted each other constantly for coordination.
The Riddles – Logic, Movement and Emotion
This wasn’t just a walk in the park for Reni. We had prepared logic puzzles, word searches on signs, physical challenges, jigsaw puzzles, a hidden letter search, walking with her eyes closed, and even a “minefield” at the end.
It all looked like a test of a new product, but in fact it was carefully staged to successfully reach the expected finale.
The Big Moment
For the last riddle, Reni was blindfolded. We took her to the place where they first met. She crossed the “minefield” with Marto’s instructions. Then she removed the blindfold, and he was waiting for her on his knees.
The words spoken stay only between them, and the tears of happiness behind the camera lenses remain with us.
Two short letters sounded clear, we forgot all our worries and knew that the day had been a success – „ДА!“ (YES / I will)
The Trust
The trust that Marto placed in us is invaluable. Being entrusted with a moment that will last a lifetime is a responsibility we take very seriously.
Today, Reni and Marto have been married for almost two years, and we have played a small but genuine role in their story.
